Ethnobiological notes: Male blue grouse are grey to bluish-grey in color. The females are mottled brown. During the winter, blue grouse feed on conifer needles. During the summer they feed on berries, seeds and insects. Male blue grouse produce a series of distinctive deep hooting sounds to attract females of the species. Blue grouse are considered good to eat, either barbecued or made into soup.
